Angus and Barbara Ewing have been designing and manufacturing furniture and lighting for about fifteen years. Inspired by their African environment, they are stirred by the need to recycle materials for the greater cause of protecting the environment. “Glass possesses an exciting fourth dimension in its interaction with light” enthuses Angus. He uses a combination of texture and depth to explore this exceptional quality. His compulsive attention to detail and obsessive desire to achieve the extraordinary drives his design ethos. The intricate stripes and lightning designs used in Binga basket weave have become Angus’ signature in the ‘art glass’ medium.
A perfectionist by nature, Barbara Ewing’s designs illustrate her appreciation of the simplicity of line and form. Deeply spiritual, she draws her inspiration mostly from organic and social issues in her environment. Barbara trained for several years in ceramics specialising in stoneware and porcelain under Frauwke Verwing, Zimbabwe. Barbara’s stylistic application of ‘water colour’ designs on her art glass has become her design signature.
